CASTING PROCESS

Melting & Pouring in Investment Casting

Melting and pouring are key steps in the silica sol lost wax casting process. After dewaxing and shell firing, molten metal is poured into the prepared ceramic shell to form the final casting shape.

This step directly affects material quality, mold filling, surface condition and casting defects. For stainless steel, carbon steel and alloy steel castings, stable melting and pouring control is important for reliable production quality.

What Is Melting & Pouring?

Melting means heating the metal material until it becomes molten metal. The material grade should be prepared according to the customer drawing and technical requirements.

Pouring means transferring the molten metal into the ceramic shell. The metal flows through the sprue, runners and gates into each cavity formed by the wax pattern.

After cooling and solidification, the ceramic shell is removed and the casting parts are separated from the gating system.

Why This Step Matters

Melting and pouring affect the internal and external quality of casting parts. If the pouring temperature, metal flow or shell condition is not controlled properly, casting defects may appear.

Common risks include porosity, shrinkage, cold shuts, incomplete filling, surface defects and dimensional variation.

For complex parts, thin-wall parts or parts with special material requirements, stable pouring control is especially important.

Process Control

Before pouring, the shell should be properly fired and prepared. The material grade, melting condition and pouring temperature should be controlled according to the casting requirements.

During pouring, the molten metal should fill the shell cavity smoothly. Good wax tree design, suitable gate position and stable shell quality all help improve metal flow and reduce defects.

After pouring, the casting should cool under suitable conditions before shell removal and further processing.

Senjia Casting Process Control

At Senjia Casting, melting and pouring are controlled according to material grade, part structure, wall thickness and production requirements.

Our team focuses on material preparation, pouring temperature, shell condition, metal flow and process stability. For custom casting parts, these controls help improve repeat production quality and reduce casting risks.

Conclusion

Melting and pouring are important steps in investment casting. They affect material quality, mold filling, defect control and final casting performance.

Senjia Casting provides silica sol lost wax casting services for stainless steel, carbon steel and alloy steel parts. If you need custom investment casting parts, please send us your drawings, material grade, quantity and surface treatment requirements.
